Please excuse the quality, we were preaching open-air at night under a street light.]

Juan Carlos (or “JuanCa” for short) is what many today are calling an “indigenous missionary.” He’s a friend of mine, he’s become part of our ministry here, and so I’d like to introduce him to you.

JuanCa is originally from San José and has pastored a church in a rural area of Costa Rica called San Mateo for the last three years; it’s about 30 minutes from the Pacific Coast (and two or three hours from San José where we live). His church is actually in a small town in San Mateo called “Jesús-María,” and from the name you can guess that it’s very catholic. He also pastors a new work that he started in a town just down the road called Labrador (you may remember we did some outreach with JuanCa in Labrador a while back).

He is very committed to evangelism and does a lot of house-to-house witnessing, visiting with the families in his area. He also likes to preach open-air, and that was the reason for my visit this last Thursday.

JuanCa has decided to have open-air services in different areas of San Mateo each Thursday night during our dry season (up until about March), and this last Thursday was the first. He invited me down to be with him and to preach. We had a wonderful time preaching the Gospel in a very “hard” neighborhood in Jesús-María (drugs, violence, prostitution, etc.).

This guy is a faithful Christian who is doing the best he can with what he has in a very difficult area of the world (rural Latin America). We support him with our prayers and fellowship, and we’ve shared our discipleship material with him, too. I would love to see JuanCa get involved with KCBT’s Spanish Bible Institute, “¿Qué dice la Biblia…?” So, please pray for JuanCa, his family, and his works in Jesús-María, Labrador, and other areas in San Mateo.

As I mention in the video, if anyone would like to come down and do a work project while getting exposure to evangelism and cross-cultural ministry, JuanCa’s work in Jesús-María is perfect. Just send me an e-mail and we can work out all the other details.
