The
rest of us spent the
latter part of the morning
and the early afternoon
going door-to-door witnessing,
passing out tracts,
and inviting folks to
an open-air activity
we had planned in the
town plaza at 4:30 p.m.
(That's Simon on the
left and Orieta on the
right, both witnessing
with the " Million
Dollar Bill"
tract, and using the
" Good
Person Test".)
Labrador is a very rural
community and has a
population of only about
1500 (less that I had
thought). That meant
we spent a good amount
of time walking down
dirt roads, going from
farm to farm —
mango farms. The people,
though, were very receptive
and open to talking
about spiritual things.

We
set up an
inflatable
“bounce
house”
around 2:30
in the plaza,
and that
attracted
a ton of
kids (each
one of which
attracted
at least
one, if
not two,
adults:
his parents!).
We set up
our sound
system and
began the
activity.
We had between
120 and
150 people
show up,
and more
were listening
from bars
and houses
around the
plaza. We
had some
music, a
couple of
fun competitions
for prizes,
and I preached
the Gospel
(Law and
grace, just
as Paul
teaches
in the New
Testament;
Gal 3.24;
1Tim 1.8-11).
There was
one drunkard
who kept
things “lively,”
but for
the most
part the
people were
attentive,
courteous,
and open.
We had time
afterward
to pass
out some
more tracts
and talk
with the
folks. |

Juan
Carlos will be
doing all the
follow-up since
he has already
started a small
work in Labrador.
God gave us a
great open door
to preach the
Gospel of Christ,
and for that we
are thankful.
We're praying
that He would
continue to bless
by opening the
hearts of the
people in Labrador
to the Gospel
so that there
might be lasting
fruit through
the seed that
was sown. |

Outreach at the UCR ::..
 |
 |
Our
next outreach event
will be “University
Week” down on
the University of Costa
Rica campus. During
“U Week”
all the different schools
(engineering, education,
etc.) put on different
fund-raising activities.
There are food stands,
concerts, open-air dramas,
etc. It's basically
one big party every
day all week long, and
then each night the
students hit the bars
(remember, we're two
blocks from the UCR
and a half a block from
the bar district!).
We're
planning on doing a
lot of open-air preaching
Thursday, Friday, and
Saturday (April 26-28).
We also bought a video
iPod to raffle off to
the students. They have
to take the “Good
Test” —
a presentation of the
Gospel using the Law
(the Ten Commandments)
— in order to
qualify for the raffle.
Then the day we raffle
off the iPod, we'll
preach to them again.
A 30Gig iPod is wonderful
“bait” to
go fishing for college
kids!
The following Saturday
(May 5th), we'll be
having an “Alternative
Service” in our
church, inviting anyone
and everyone from the
UCR to attend. We've
invited a popular band
to play, there'll be
free food and some drama,
and then I'll give a
message to all in attendance.
We did this same thing
last year and had about
350 youth show up. |

Discipleship Material ::..
After years of research and
writing, I finally finished
our discipleship material!
There are ten courses, divided
into two volumes (a little
over 1,000 pages of material).
It's highly structured and
explanatory so it can be “exported”
very easily. All anyone would
have to do in order to use
it is print out a copy and
start on page 1. The lessons
teach themselves and the homework
guides the disciple in the
application of the principles
he is learning. By the time
he finishes the two volumes,
he's been clearly and biblically
taught and trained how to
“go and make disciples.”
Needless to say, I'm excited
that it's finally finished!

Trip to Ohio ::..
This month I'll be visiting
First
Baptist Church of Jackson,
Ohio (pastors Tom Gang and
Rory Wineka). Tom and Rory
are great friends and very
much an encouragement to us
in the ministry here. I'm
very happy to be with them
April 19th through the 23rd.
Please pray that God would
use me to be a blessing to
that church family, because
they have most certainly been
a blessing to us!
Thank
you all for friendship and
continued support. Please
pray that God would give us
more zeal for Him and for
His work each and every day!
