The “mean spirited” preacher

This topic has come up a lot in my personal life and ministry, and just recently in the last couple of posts on Personal Discipleship (article | audio). It’s interesting that in the last 10 or 15 minutes of this very message, Paul Washer addresses the issue. Apparently many have called him “mean spirited.” It’s a three-minute mp3, if you’d like to hear what he says, but I’ll warn you before hand: For most, it will be offensive. I didn’t find it offensive. Frankly, he’s barking up my tree. But, I’m just telling you… most will find this comment offensive.

You and Paul are so mean. :-) Just kidding. I just finished listening to the “Essential Truths Of The Cross” message by Paul and sent it along with “Ten Indictments Of The American Church” to my pastors. Not that they are off kilter but what Paul says is true of American churches in general and seen/heard a lot of things that Paul preaches against from independent, fundamental baptist preachers over the last few years. It was also refreshing to hear that someone else won’t send their kids to church camp. Martha and I decided a while back that our kids wouldn’t be going to camp for just the reasons Paul outlines in his messages. Thank for the links!

Mean or just honest? Jesus preached on hell becuase he knew that one of His hand picked was heading that way. Sitting in a pew on Sunday means nothing, and the tares need to hear that. Of course I guess it may be considered mean spirited to tell the wheat it is our job to preach Christ at home, work, and everywhere else not just the preachers on Sunday morning. I agree with him talking about the way people conduct funerals in todays world. Lets talk about how good they were? Please, we are all rotten sinners. Lets tell the people how GOOD Jesus was and what He did for them. The dead guy is dead, a little late to worry about him! Not being mean just honest!

Jesus preached on hell and sin and all of it and I will listen to the message by Rev Washer, then post my comment. Lynn
